
Playing with grit and determination, Everton beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 to climb to the fifth position in the English Premier League. This victory means that Everton can now relish the dream of playing in UEFA Cup next season, though there is still quite some work to do. On the other hand, Charlton has dropped to the relegation zone once again but can take some heart from their performance.
After 80 minutes, match was heading for a 0-0 draw but then came the flurry of goals from both sides. First, Everton defender Lescott gave Toffees a lead, then Charlton striker Darren Bent gave Charlton a lifeline to get a crucial one point from the match in 89th minute. But the Charlton fans were in for a shock when McFadden scored an injury time goal to give Everton a full three points in their quest for the European spot next season.
